The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, sent an appeal to the Russian government with a request to suspend mining of cryptocurrencies in the region until "stability in the energy grid complex is restored."
According to information published in the administration of the head of the region, the work of mining farms leads to a shortage of electricity, which, in turn, affects the quality and reliability of electricity supply for local residents.
Representatives of the administration explained that the decision to ban such activities can be made only in certain regions. In this regard, Sergey Melikov sent an official appeal to the government, asking to take into account the peculiarities of the region.
The authorities of Dagestan noted that electricity consumption in the region has increased, and the deterioration of the power grid infrastructure exceeds the national average, which leads to an increase in technological violations. Specialists from Dagenergo, a branch of Rosseti North Caucasus, reported many cases of theft of electricity related to the operation of mining farms.
According to previously released information from Kommersant, based on the draft protocol of the government commission for the development of the electric power industry, it became known that the Cabinet of Ministers has identified a list of regions in which it is planned to ban the mining of cryptocurrencies from December 1. This list includes the republics of the North Caucasus, including Dagestan.
