Brazil is following the United States in considering the creation of a bitcoin reserve

Brazil is considering using cryptocurrencies as a tool to strengthen its economy. A draft law has been submitted to the country's Congress, which involves the creation of a sovereign strategic bitcoin reserve.

This bill proposes to use cryptocurrency to minimize the impact of currency fluctuations and geopolitical risks on the national economy. The author of the initiative was Deputy Eros Biondini.

The initiative proposes to create a cryptocurrency reserve, called RESBit, which should complement the available assets for the Central Bank of Brazil. According to the plan, this reserve will not exceed 5% of the total number of available reserves.

The cryptocurrency reserve is intended to be used as collateral for the upcoming digital currency of the central bank — Real Digital (Drex). The management of the RESBit reserve is supposed to be transferred to the Central Bank, which will apply blockchain and artificial intelligence technologies. An advisory board of security experts will be established to oversee the project.

The current document is being evaluated by the Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies. After its approval, it will be referred to the relevant committees for further discussion.

El Salvador and Brazil are not the only states that realize the potential of creating cryptocurrency reserves. This strategy has also found support in the United States. The newly elected president of 2024, Donald Trump, expresses his intention to establish a bitcoin reserve in the United States, believing that this initiative will be able to strengthen the country's economy and help solve problems with foreign debt.
